Materials and Structures

The reference laboratory consists of 4 groups, each with their own lines of research:

- Group Welding and Mechanical Behavior of Metallic Materials: Study and develop as broad areas of metallic materials, mechanical properties and welding. As research topics include: a) Technology of Welding of Metallic Materials. b) Tribology. Wear resistance and friction of metallic materials. c) Materials processing by ECAP. d) high temperature mechanical behavior of metallic materials: Creep and superplasticity. e) Biomaterials. Effect of surface treatments on mechanical properties of Ti. Resistance to fatigue.

- Department of Polymer and Composite Materials: The subject area is the study and research of composite materials (cement and polymer matrix), Nanofibers, Polymers, Biopolymers, biodegradable polymers and biocomposites. Regarding its research, we can mention the following: a) Nanotechnology in concrete. b) Additives and additions to develop more durable concrete, innovative, flexible cement, concrete driver, self-healing cement, cement with short fibers. c) fiber reinforced polymers, glass, natural carbon. Its use as a booster various industrial applications: construction, wind, marine, aerospace, aviation. d) Obtaining and nanoalmidón nanocells by methods friendly to the environment. Its use in concrete. e) enzymatic modification of natural polymers for compatibility with resins and cement. f) polymer matrix nanocomposites. g) self-
healing materials.-

- Granular Composites Group: In principle we can say that your subject area is the technology of concrete and mortars. However, as lines of inquiry appointed the following: a) Design of concrete for durability. b) Parameters of the transport capacity of the hardened concrete. c) Non-destructive testing. d) performance based design. e) Sustainability of concrete constructions. f) Sustainability indicators for materials and products. g) Energy efficiency of buildings. h) Thermal inertia of the concrete. i) Characterization of concrete micro and mesoscopic scale. j) concretes.

- Group of Numerical Methods in Engineering: Development and research within the subject area of Materials, the experimental numerical study of the behavior of engineering materials cohesive-frictional. In particular, concrete and soil.
